Whenever you have a dream in life, you see a vision in your mind.
A vision of what will happen when you’ve achieved it,
A vision of what your life and work will look like,
A vision of who will be involved with reaching the milestone,
And even,
A vision of who you became in the process of fulfilling it.
When you see that vision, you feel INSPIRED.
You see new possibilities for yourself,
You experience hope for a greater life (the one you deserve),
And your mind becomes expanded.
You come alive from the inside.
That vision is what all humans need, because it ignites our potential and gives purpose and to our time here.
But what happens next depends on what you DO with that vision.
Sometimes, the vision is so clear that you know exactly what to do to achieve it. You can see a plan of action and the pathway to fulfill your goal. You know what to do, you get into motion working on it, and you build momentum towards it. Eventually, through persistence and patience, you reach it.
If that doesn’t happen, then you have a problem.
Why?
Because then you’re sitting with a vision in your mind and what is likely to be a huge distance or difference between where you are today and where you want to be.
I call this “the gap”.
If you don’t address “the gap”, you might soon find yourself right back where you started – or worse, feeling depressed because now you see a vision that you have little to no faith you will ever achieve.
The worst part about this is that you end up shrinking your goals – or giving up on your heartfelt dreams – instead of expanding yourself and your life to match them.
SO… here are 3 things you can do to handle “the gap”.
These will turn your initial spark of inspiration into a burning flame.
1. Write your vision down – clearly (in as much detail as possible)
2. Set your specific goals within that vision – E.g. your vision might be to travel the world. Your goals within that include a list of the specific places you want to visit, the cost of each trip, and what you want to do once you’re there.
3. Break the goals into smaller action steps – this is so that you don’t feel stressed about the “how”. The action steps need to be small enough that you feel you could do them today.
These simple steps will turn a potentially task into an achievable outcome.
Besides these 3 vital actions, it’s also important to make FRIENDS with the gap – because it’s on your side.
The gap is not a bad thing.
It’s not there to defeat you,
And it’s not a reason to give up on your vision.
On the flip side, the gap is a great thing.
It means that you SEE where you can go, and that you’re tuned into the possibilities for your own life and are you’re courageous enough to dream about your future (which many aren’t).
The gap can inspire you – and unleash the greatness that lives within you. It can call you to greener pastures and show you that you are capable of so much more.
AND…
If you let it – and are willing to simply sit in it for a day, a week, or even a few months – your mind will naturally start to FILL that gap.
In other words, if you’re bold enough to ask what you want, trust your soul’s vision, and believe that you are worthy of rising up to that vision, the answers will come.
So…
Work on the steps above – and turn ‘the gap’ into your greatest ally. Use it as a source of inspiration, and trust that while you do your part (e.g. set goals + take action), life will bring you the perfect people, places, resources and ideas to help you move towards where you want to be.
“The gap” can INSPIRE you or DEFEAT you – it’s your choice.
