I first started out as a professional writer more than a decade ago helping entrepreneurs write content, and my business evolved from there.
For the past 6 years, I’ve earned 6-figures+ as an author, speaker & mentor – and it’s been the most deeply rewarding journey serving people around the world to live an inspiring life.
Here are the top 3 actions that enable me to earn 6-figures every year doing what I love.
1. I Always Have A Plan
No matter where I’m at in my business and life, I always know what I’m working on next.
If you were to inbox me on any day of the week or year and ask me, “Em, what are you working on?”, I can list it out for you.
I’m very clear – at least 3-6 months in advance – where my focus is and what project I’m devoting my time and energy to. I’ll know which product I’m developing, which program I’m growing, what book I’m writing, which content I’m producing.
I see my long-term vision (which is critical for any type of success) and I continually update my short-term plan to close the gap between where I am and where I want to be.
I’m not afraid to adapt or update my plan if I have to, but I’m always clear on what I’m doing next. This enables me to build and maintain momentum in my work and life – which produces results.
2: I Communicate Constantly
I continuously communicate with the world around me. I don’t sit at home on my own, twiddling my thumbs and HOPING that my dreams will manifest.
I talk to my perfect leads on a daily basis – usually via social media, or with in-person networking. I focus on building new relationships and putting new content out for people to engage with. I’m connecting with my existing clients.
When I do this, I’m doing 2 things: LISTENING and OBSERVING.
I do this to help me get to know my perfect customers intimately. I am looking for what they’re struggling with and listening for where they’re REALLY at in their lives.
I want to know what they need help with – and how they explain their problems – so that I can add value to their lives in my content and marketing and offer them solutions to support them in building their dreams.
This daily action has been SIGNIFICANT for growing my personal brand and business (my high-end clients are 100% word-of-mouth referrals).
3: I Show Up Every Day
I love the quote from Marie Forleo: “Success doesn’t come from what you do occasionally. It comes from what you do consistently.”
I show up for my work, my mission, my calling, and my business – EVERY DAY.
This has been a constant throughout my career. I don’t treat what I do as a one-off project or a ‘nice’ thing to do. I’m deeply committed to my growth and the growth of my clients.
I’m constantly posting on social media, refining offers, designing offers, planning marketing, and thinking about the future of my business.
There is NO doubt in my mind, that this has generated the results I’ve been blessed to experience, from 6-figure revenues to countless heart-opening moments when my work and words have changed someone’s life for the better.
Yes, I have challenges. Yes, I experience self-doubt. Yes, I question myself (often). But, I keep showing up regardless of how I feel. I do the work and I break through what could otherwise stop me.
Why? Because I know the life and business I dream of is on the other side.
You have to step up to the plate if you’re going to hit a home run.
